What is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the use of the extracts of aromatic plants for wellbeing and healing. Its teaching and practice leverages the natural ingredients of plants long known for their therapeutic qualities.

In our consultations you’ll learn how to use essential oils in your everyday life to help you and your family secure relief from many common ailments, and recharge naturally for a real sense of your best selves.

Essential oils – sometimes called aromatherapy oils – are effective, child friendly and carry no side effects provided they are used appropriately. I provide detailed reference materials, and samples to get you started.

What are essential oils?

An essential oil is a non-oily natural extract of an aromatic plant most commonly obtained by distillation. They are called oils because of their chemical composition, which means that they do not mix with water.

They are volatile, non-greasy, and evaporate without a trace. Each of these aromatherapy oils are made up of many hundreds of chemical components which give the oil its colour, consistency, aroma and therapeutic properties.

For any medicine to work it has to get into the body. Essential oils do this by the inhalation of the aroma through the nose or by the absorption of the oil through the skin. The oils are absorbed quickly, sometimes within 20 minutes of topic application. With their therapeutic benefits swiftly at work, our bodies can work with us to restore a healthy balance.

Is Aromatherapy safe?

Yes, used appropriately, essential oils are completely safe. I use them in the safest ways: applying to the skin or through inhalation.

I discourage the ingestion of oils for the simple reason that the oils take far longer to enter your system through the digestive tract.

I promote taking essential oils topically or through inhalation, so the benefits begin within 20 to 30 minutes. Further, I dilute them properly to avoid sensitization and to be safe for children, during pregnancy, for cancer patients, the elderly and the otherwise fragile.

How do I practice Aromatherapy?

I offer a 20 minute complementary discovery phone or video call session to discuss your needs and how I can help you.

We then set a convenient time and place for your first aromatherapy consultation.

During the consultation, the focus is on “you” (not the symptom) taking many aspects into consideration: your lifestyle, physical mental and emotional condition, your stress levels, and the aromas that make you “tick” . The outcome is a bespoke plan with unique blends of aromatherapy oils in the form of rollers, creams, sprays etc. to support your needs.

How can Aromatherapy be beneficial?

Aromatherapy can be a powerful tool to help you in a safe, natural way with insomnia, symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, aches and pains, menopause, eczema, allergies, skin problems – and so much more.

There are no side effects and essential oils can create no dependency.

My true passion is to share with you my knowledge on natural remedies to empower you to become the CEO of your own and your family’s health with a big focus on prevention.

Is Aromatherapy effective?

Numerous studies demonstrate that aromatherapy is effective. You can review high-quality sources and studies at the resources below:

What is our approach?

We like to use the  80/20 approach: if we can choose a natural remedy for prevention 80% of the time, we leave the other 20% for when we absolutely need an antibiotic or other treatment from a GP or specialist.

And then we can come back to a more natural approach to stay healthy, to boost our immunity without generating a dependency on prescribed medications.

What is the aim of an Aromatherapist?

The aim of an Aromatherapist is to treat the person, rather than the disease. This holistic approach uses natural ingredients to restore and maintain health in a sustainable manner.

Why choose me as your Aromatherapist?

I’m a qualified professional clinical aromatherapist. I have studied extensively in this field and keep up to date with the latest research. I only ever recommend what’s appropriate and helpful, and I will always explain the reasons for my advice.

And although I am a true believer that we need fewer toxins, and a more natural approach towards our health, I’m also reasonable and realistic. I like to use the 80/20 approach: if we can choose a natural remedy 80% of the time for prevention and treatment, the rest of the time we can (and should) seek help from our GP – for example when we truly need an antibiotic or other prescribed medications.

Who is Aromatherapy for?

Aromatherapy is for everyone! It’s for men, women, teens, children and babies for a wide variety of health concerns.

Aromatherapy can help young mothers overcome tiredness, overloaded days, feelings of imbalance and postpartum physical or mental concerns can be helped with aromatherapy. Mothers also come to my practice for support with childhood and teen health issues, just like I did with my own children.

Aromatherapy can also help older women suffering from pre-menopausal and post-menopausal symptoms, as well as arthritis and age-related issues.

Where is the Clinic?

My clinic is based in Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey. This is where I host my individual clients for one-to-one sessions.

I run group aromatherapist sessions at the homes of clients. I am also happy to do consultations online or in places such as coffee shops. I will travel to clients that are homebound or who have limited transport options.

Since November 2023, I have been running evening workshops at the newly opened Englefield Green Community Shop at 82 St Jude’s Road, TW20 0DF – it’s on the high street / A328, right next to Stopps Bakers & Sandwich Bar. Call in at the community shop to find out more.
