Natural Solutions for a skin detox after the holiday Season

The skin is a giant organ of elimination, getting rid of waste through the pores as we sweat. If the other organs of elimination, the kidneys and colon, are not working efficiently, a variety of skin diseases ranging from eczema, acne, dermatitis or boils may occur, because the body is trying to push out through the skin more toxins than it can effectively cope with. It’s doing the job of someone else as well as its own.

“The skin is communicating that toxins are quite high and she is not coping. The skin reflects the state of our health & emotions”

Using natural products without preservatives or harsh ingredients, we can help improve skin issues safely, while also targeting what’s happening inside.

How to let all the toxins out and help the skin to have a break:

👉Dry brushing: once or twice a week before jumping into the shower, with soft circular and upwards movements.

Dry brushing has myriad benefits, including:

• stimulating the lymphatic system, preventing  spider and varicose Veins,

• exfoliating the skin,

• helping the body get rid of toxins,

• increasing blood circulation and energy, and

• helping to break down cellulite.

All of these actions promote internal detoxification which can aid in weight loss, cellulite reduction and the elimination of accumulated toxins. Dry brushing also stimulates collagen production, increasing  elasticity.

Note: Please skip dry brushing if you have very sensitive skin or inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis or varicose veins. Dry brushing extremely dry or delicate skin can just aggravate things more.

👉 Create a detoxifying body cream

Pick a good, organic face cream, add Jojoba up to 20% of the mix, and 3 drops of Juniper Berry for every 10 grams. I also like to add Cedarwood and Cypress to help with cellulite, water retention and for skin regeneration, and a final feminine touch with Germanium.

Juniper Berry is perhaps the most important essential oil to use in detoxifying. And it is significant that it’s a mental detoxifier too. When you apply the cream, the aroma will help to significantly reduce mental stress levels.

👉Tone the skin with organic Hydrolats:

  • Rose Hydrolats for normal to dry skin,
  • Chamomile or Melissa Hydrolats for very sensitive or allergic skin,
  • Neroli/ orange Hydrolats for oily skin, and
  • Peppermint Hydrolats to boost energy and combat hot flushes.

How to help your face skin:

The skin of our face is constantly exposed to the weather, pollution, central heating and more.

Because we care about our facial appearance, essential oils are a good go-to option. Essential oils can contribute enormously to the health and appearance of the skin.

Our skin produces its own protective layer called sebum. Because the sebum is an oily wax, essential oils applied to the skin dissolve this wax and make the absolution by the skin even easier.

👉In the case of Oily skin and acne, we need to reduce the amount of sebum produced and control the bacteria that thrives on the surface of an oily skin.

Bergamot essential oil reduces sebum production (it’s astringent) and Lavender essential oil has a balancing effect, also promoting the growth of new cells. Both are antiseptic and control bacteria on the surface of the skin.

👉In the case of dry skin, what we found is lower sebum production, which leads to very attractive youthful skin but it means wrinkles will probably appear more quickly than with an oily skin.

Because this skin is usually sensitive essential oils from flowers are the best: Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Jasmine, Neroli, Immortelle & Yarrow. Geranium and Sandalwood can balance the sebum production by reducing or increasing, making this blend beneficial for oily or dry skin,  as they reduce or increase the production of sebum as needed.

👉Normal Skin benefits from Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Neroli, Cedarwood essential oils.

👉Weather you have dry, normal or oily skin, Frankincense & Palmarosa are excellent additions for their anti-aging properties: they help to regenerate ageing skin, and they contract and tone tissue, helping to smooth wrinkles. While Frankincense is working on your skin it is also strengthening your immune system, and providing calm and relaxation – another example of essential oils working on multiple levels.

Skin detoxification is crucial for our wellness.

The fewer harsh ingredients we use, the better it is for our skin and the less disruptive for our hormones.
